Divisions

Projects will be assigned to divisions based on grade in school:

Group projects (made by more than one student) may be exhibited in the Flint Area Science Fair, but compete only with other group projects.

Project Categories

Projects may be entered in any of the following categories:

Life

  • BEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE: Psychology, Animal and Human Behavior, Social and Community Relationships
  • MICROBIOLOGY: The study of bacteria and viruses
  • PLANT SCIENCES: Study of plant life
  • MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES: Study of humans and their biology, diseases and health
  • CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY: Biology of microorganisms
  • ANIMAL SCIENCES: Study of animals
Earth & Chemical
  • BIOCHEMISTRY: Chemistry of life processes  
  • CHEMISTRY: Study of the nature and composition of matter and laws governing it
  • EARTH SCIENCE: Geology, Mineralogy, Physical Geography, Oceanography, Meteorology, Climatology, Space Science
  • ENERGY AND TRANSPORTATION
  • ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS: The study of air, water and land pollution.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: Environmental and ecosystem management
Physical
  • COMPUTER SCIENCE: The study and development of computer software, hardware, and associated logical devices.
  • ENGINEERING:  Materials and bioengineering / electrical and mechanical
  • MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES: Numerical and algebraic computations, and the application of these principles
  • PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY: Theories, principles, and laws governing energy and the effect of energy on matter
