Awards, Prizes and Scholarships
At the 2008 Fair awards, prizes and scholarships valued at nearly $26,000 were presented thanks to the generosity and commitment of Fair sponsors.
The FASF Board believes everyone who develops and exhibits a project at the FASF is already a winner. For that reason, every exhibitor at the fair will receive a prize and ribbon. At the 2008 Flint Fair, nearly $5000 in merchandise from businesses was presented to the 302 experimenters NOT selected as Finalists.
FASF Finalists
In 2008 awards valued at nearly $26,000 were distributed to 88 Finalists. Students who develop high quality projects are designated “Finalists”, and are awarded prizes, scholarships and bonds. It is from among the finalists that judges select winners of the various categories within divisions for top awards.
- At the 2008 Flint fair, over $21,000 in scholarships and bonds were awarded to 88 Finalists in grades 4 through 12.
- Senior division finalists were also sponsored to compete in the Michigan Science and Engineering Fair.
- Kettering University and U of M-Flint also select students for scholarships through the Science Fair, including scholarships to special pre-college programs.
Senior Division Top Prizes!
Two senior division winners were awarded an all expense paid trip to compete in the prestigious INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (2009 ISEF will be in Reno, NV). Two outstanding freshman or sophomore finalists were also awarded an all expense paid trip to attend ISEF as observers. An “Alternate” is also selected in case a winner is unable to attend ISEF or becomes eligible for sponsorship through the Michigan (state) Science & Engineering Fair.
Note: Scholarship levels and prizes awarded are subject to availability and may change without notice.

Each year the FASF is able to award all-expense paid trips to participate in the ISEF (the 2009 ISEF is in Reno, NV). Two senior division finalists are sponsored to compete in ISEF and two finalists in grades 9 or 10 are sponsored to attend ISEF as "Observers".
The experience of ISEF. Opportunities to discuss projects with top scientists and engineers who come to the fair as judges or observers are among the most valuable experiences of participating in ISEF. Being judged in competition with over 1100 finalists, explaining projects to visitors at the fair and participating in special tours have great educational value that cannot be obtained in any other way.
